Wind power is unfortunately not right for everybody, here are some pointers to help you decide if it’s a viable option for you:

You will need:

Good access to the proposed site, foundations need to be dug and approximately 10 cubic metres of spoil removed. Then a cement lorry will need to be able to get in to pour the concrete.

The foundations need to be in good solid ground, landfill sites are not suitable.

Exposure to wind! Sounds obvious but can be overlooked. Ideally you need a clear view to the South West, the more open the better. Tall trees produce wind disturbance and reduce power output significantly.

Space. A turbine capable of powering the average house is only 10m high, but it needs to be winched into position so allow extra room for the lifting gear.

The control boxes need about two square metres of indoors wall space for mounting.

Fuel savings are capped at £500. In reality they may be much higher, especially for larger turbines.

Wind speeds given at 10m above ground level, we always recommend taller towers which allow for higher wind speeds.
